THE FACULTY QUARTERLY
MARCH 2016

An initiative of The Faculty Roundtable, The CPO of the Year award recognises a remarkable commercial leader who is making a demonstrable difference to business results, having regard to the particular circumstances of different industries, budgets and the diversity of procurement team size and experience.

For the past four years the Award has celebrated someone who has been assessed as an outstanding leader, a prominent contributor to their business and the broader profession, leading delivery of high ROI, and exceeding performance expectations.

The Award is a measure of executive presence, commercial insight, people leadership abilities, innovation, professional advocacy, technical ability and integrity. Past winners of the award include some of Australia’s highest-profile CPOs:

  • Richard Allen, Chief Procurement Officer Telstra, CPO of the Year 2015
  • Visna Lampasi, Former Chief Procurement Officer Leighton Contractors, CPO of the Year 2014
  • Keith Bird, Former General Manager Commercial, Queensland Rail, CPO of the Year 2013

The Judging Process:

1. Functional Excellence
2. Leadership Attributes
3. Commercial Leadership
4. People Leadership

The Award is adjudicated by an independent panel of judges, chaired in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 by Dr Karen Morley of Karen Morley & Associates.

Award Process:

  • Nominations opened 27 January
  • Nominations close Friday 18 March
  • Once a nomination has been received the nominee will be contacted to confirm their interest in proceeding with the award.
  • Nominees and their line manager will be asked to complete a survey based on The Faculty’s X Factor research. Both manager and CPO must complete the survey to be further considered.
  • From the X Factor criteria, five finalists are selected and these entries assessed by an independent judging panel and the winner is announced at the 2106 CPO Forum Gala Dinner.
